I
saw my first Gypsy Horses in 1974, while on a high school trip to Spain.
Their tolerance as the kids swung from their tails and scrambled around
them like little monkeys reminded me of doting grandmothers - whatever
they did was just fine. I knew one day I would have one. As with most people, life and dreams were on a collision course. Many years of trips to England became impossible when life - kids, schedules, husband, or septic tank - got in the way. Eventually, kids and husband gone, a flexible work schedule, and a wonderful new partner, my trip became a reality. Gordon and I got to England just as foot and mouth disease broke out, and we watched as they posted "Quarantine, No Passing" signs all over the country! The following summer we went to Ireland to show dogs with our English friends and to "look at" Gypsy Horses. We bought 2. We decided we wanted to have a new name for the new farm. We chose Aisling, pronounced ASHlinn and means dream or vision. It's It seemed to be exactly right for us. Our first pure Gypsy colt was born in February of '04. We named him Aisling Ardanach. Ardanach means high aspirations, and we do have high hopes for him. He is going to live in New York with our friends and partners, Kim and Bob Swaizgood. If all goes according to plan, he will eventually stand at stud there, and he will be trained to be a jousting horse. |
