I've always loved
animals, and was the "family dog trainer". I trained our hunting
dogs and did field trials. I got a few obedience titles, and dabbled
in agility. Several of my dogs have been certified therapy dogs, and
we did programs for years in schools and nursing homes.
It must be genetic, my dad grew up on a farm and had working horses
and dogs. I remember the huge Collie his grandmother had, his name was
Rhett.
My maternal grandfather drove a milk wagon until the horses had to be
retired. I loved it when he took me to see them, and it was obvious
that they adored him as much as I did! He also raised dogs, and HIS
dad raised dogs. I don't remember what kind of
dogs he had, or if anyone even told me. But after my grandparents died,
I found a picture of him - with SMOOTH Collies!!!
The name Kimegan came from my daughters, Kimberlee and Megan. They were
both actively involved in competing - even before they were old enough
to be Juniors. Meg didn't show often, and Kim was in the breed ring
more often than in the Junior Showmanship ring.
Kim still handles our dogs, and her daughter, Madelynn, can't wait to
be "big enough". Everyone, including her son Tyler helps train,
as well. It's a family affair!
Meg preferred the training and performance events and participated in
many other activities. She was also a successful trainer and exhibitor
of Paint horses as a teen, but took time off for college. She just graduated
from college and is going to work as a trainer/exhibitor for a Paint
breeder. Imagine that. That psych degree should come in handy.
